15 December 2008

  • Birth
Congratulations to Club Treasurer Adrian Lee and his wife Muriel on the birth of their baby daughter Caoimhe last week, a little sister for Matthew. Best wishes from all in the club.
  • A.R.O.K. (Alternative Rose of Kiltubrid)
Drumcong experienced the Tralee feeling last Saturday night as Kiltubrid’s would be roses paraded their wares and talents before a packed Cardiff’s Lounge. Entertainment of this nature never before hit this community, and what a night we had as everyone there thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the show. A lot of work and preparation went into the event culminating in another successful night for Kiltubrid GAA. The roses stole the show with their attires and stage displays that had the audience on their feet, acknowledging the fun and entertainment throughout. Thanks to the Cardiff family for the use of their premises and their hospitality, to the organising group and the roses for their efforts, to the stage duo and the judges, to the sound crew from Dublin, and finally all of you who supported and attended. This fundraiser will help to bring the club’s costs for 2008 to a manageable position. Congrats to the Rantogue Rose who emerged as a very popular winner of the contest.
  • GAA Club Pre AGM Meeting
The club’s pre AGM meeting held last Thursday night was a great success, and should enable the AGM to proceed without anyone attending having to take any positions if they don’t wish to. A number of options were discussed and agreed, subject to AGM approval. The AGM is on Sunday week 28th Dec in Liscarbin Social Centre commencing at 3 pm.
  • Highlanders v Lowlanders
The annual St Stephen’s Day charity inter club football game will take place again this year. This promises once again to be a good contest as upper parish versus lower parish territorial bragging entitlements are up for grabs.

  • Under 21’s
Our parish Under 21 Team failed to overcome the hunger and might of Carrigallen last Saturday in the Semi Final of the B Championship played in Gortletteragh. Short some players and being down to fourteen players midway in the first half didn’t help their cause, as the Carrigallen side were the hungrier side on the day. Hard luck lads, your day will come. Good wishes to Carrigallen in the final.
  • Deaths
We offer the sympathy of our community to the Fox family Aughakilbrack on the death of Michael McKiernan Derrinasoo, Leitrim P.O (brother of Ms Kathleen Fox) whose funeral mass was celebrated last week, also the McGovern family Drumhubrid, Drumcong on the death of Fergal Whelan Ballygawley, Sligo (nephew of Ms Elizabeth McGovern) whose funeral mass was celebrated last Monday, also the Bohan family Drumcara Foxfield on the death of Michael Bohan whose funeral mass was celebrated last Saturday.

01 December 2008

  • Under 21’s
Good result for our most senior underage squad last Sunday as they had a four point win over Annaduff. The game itself was tight enough all through even though our lads missed some very scoreable chances. Kiltubrid’s dominance for long periods of the game should have given them a more comfortable margin at the final whistle. They now must wait on the result from the other quarter final game between Carrigallen and Dromahair to see who their opponents are in the semifinal. All players are asked to please put in an effort to attend training for the remainder of this competition.
  • Alternative Rose
With two and a half weeks to go the would be roses are gearing up their campaign with high intensity as supporters are being urged to make sure each rose has a good return on the final night, that is Saturday 13th Dec. The venue is Cardiff’s and a huge turnout is expected to gather to see their supported roses take to the catwalk, parading their talent and style in front of a panel of judges and you the supporters. This promises to be a very entertaining and funny night when the Alternative Rose of Kiltubrid will be crowned. The A.R.O.K campaign is being organised by Kiltubrid GAA as one their fundraising events.
  • Club Executive
Next club / executive meeting will take place on this Friday night 28th November in McNamara’s Kilclare starting at 9.30 pm. As this is the last club/executive meeting before the AGM, a good attendance is expected with plans for the AGM forming part of the agenda.

  • Junior B Champions
A great weekend for our club Junior Men as they had great victory over Glencar Manor in the Junior B Final. This result was no more than this bunch of players deserve as they have trained hard over a long drawn out season. No need to mention any players individually as the panel as a whole earned this title with great performances in the games leading up to the final, and what a game this turned out to be as both teams served up an excellent game of football last Sunday in Pairc Sean. The credit for this result goes to the team management of Adrian McKeown and Prionsias Reynolds who have put in a lot of time and effort throughout the season to achieve this title. We thank all associated especially the Cardiff family who put up a full meal for the entire panel and team mentors after the game on Sunday. To all supporters we say thanks once again for your continued support. At this stage we wish to acknowledge the graciousness of the Manorhamilton team, officials and supporters who wished all our players and mentors well after the game in a very sporting manner.

The big night will be held in Cardiff’s Lounge with a DJ providing the back up entertainment during the final selection of the winning rose. Please support those competing Roses during the coming weeks, as they canvas for the great honour of being Kiltubrid’s First Alternative Rose.

  • Club Replica Jerseys
Any person who has ordered a club replica jersey contact Finbarr on 086-8196535 to arrange collection by this weekend at the latest.
  • Senior League
When backs are to the wall, it brings the best out of any team as proved last Sunday in Kiltubrid as our Seniors reversed this year’s championship semi-final result defeating Bornacoola by 1-13 to 0-11. A good performance all round as the lads dug deep in this very entertaining game that saw Kiltubrid take the lead early on with a well worked goal finished off with precision by Kealan McKeon. Following this score Kiltubrid didn’t fall behind for the remainder of the game despite some very close shaves as the visitors who had an equal hunger tried hard to emulate their championship form. This result gets us a little bit further away from the cliff’s edge, and with Mohill our last game of the league its another result that will be very important as a number of teams are also in the danger zone. Training for Juniors, Seniors and Under 21’s continues this Wednesday as usual. More players should make an effort to attend from all grades. Check fixtures in sports pages to see date and time for next Senior league game.
  • Fixtures
Kiltubrid Juniors play Aughawillan in the Semi final on Saturday at 3pm in Aughnasheelin. Seniors take on Mohill at home at 2pm on Sunday next.
  • Deaths
Please remember in your prayers the late Terence McManus, Aughakilbrack whose funeral mass was celebrated last Friday in St Patrick’s Church, Drumshanbo. May his soul rest in peace. We offer the sympathy of our community to the Bohan family Gortnagullion on the death of Ann Jane O’Brien Finisklin, Kilclare (mother of Maura Bohan.). May she rest in peace.
  • Connaught Club Scene
Hard luck to Aughnasheelin and Eslin who had to yield to the stronger St Michaels of Galway and Mayo’s Kilalla respectively last Sunday.
  • ‘Ozzie Rules’
It was fourth time lucky for north Leitrim side St Osnats who secured their first Championship title last Sunday in Pairc Sean by defeating Drumreilly. Congrats to all.

20 October 2008

  • Senior Div 1 ACL
Following a dodgy start to our senior league game in Annaduff last Saturday evening, we never got going until well into the second half to trail the home side at the final whistle. • Division 4 Team
Playing in round 2 of the JFC B Championship our second team travelled to Leitrim Gaels Grounds last Saturday evening to take on Glencar Manor. In a ding dong game where no team got out of sight, it ended with a victory for Kiltubrid by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 1 10 to 2 6. Training is for everyone from here on in. Next game is on this Sunday 14th September against Cloone in Annaduff at 12 noon.
  • Division 5 Team
First round of the JFC C Championship for our third team took place in Annaduff last Sunday as they took on Mohill’s third string. Despite a very brave performance for the entire game it was Mohill who finished that little bit stronger scoring the only goal of the game to take the lead for the second time in the game leaving them ahead at the final whistle by three points 1 6 to 0 6. Our third team continue their JFC C championship trail as they play Gortletteragh on Sunday next at 1.30 pm also in Annaduff.

25 August 2008

  • Men’s Senior Championship
Great result despite a gutsy comeback by Allen Gaels last Saturday evening in Pairc Sean, our Seniors are through to a quarter final match with Annaduff providing the opposition. Our game against Allen Gaels was never going to be easy as the neighbours drew on all their talent to leave the margin just two points despite our eight point lead at half time. Its time now to concentrate on Annaduff in Cloone on Saturday next at 5 pm. Annaduff have won both games in the opening round with relative ease and will prove a tough hurdle for our lads on Saturday. Nevertheless our senior squad wont take anything for granted. Your support once again will no doubt give the lads a lift as they go in search of further success.
  • Men’s Division 4 Junior Championship
Sunday followed Saturday’s Senior success with a good day for our second team as the Juniors had a good win over St Caillins in Aughnasheelin. They now progress to the final stages of this competition. No word on who they’ll meet next at this stage. Well done to all involved.

Our Senior team travelled to Manorhamilton last Friday evening to play Glencar Manor in Round 2 of the league. A last opportunity to level matters just edged wide of the Glencar Manor post to leave the final score at 1-11 to 1-10. So its back to training tonight Tuesday at 8 pm for all Senior panellists. This weekend we play Drumreilly away on Saturday evening at 6.30pm.

05 May 2008

  • Senior Shield
Our trip down the road to neighbours Aughnasheelin ended with a three point defeat as the home side were the hungrier team on the day. Minus a few regulars didn’t help matters as we struggled throughout the hour. On a more serious note we wish James Gill a speedy recovery from a nasty injury picked up during an accidental clash near the end of the game.
  • Div 4 Team
Kiltubrid Played Dromahaire on Sunday last at home and following an entertaining hours football came out on the winning end of this one. More attention to training would benefit players who only show up now and again.
  • Junior Girls
A neighbourly encounter between Fenagh and Kiltubrid Junior girls played last Saturday in Kiltubrid. Kiltubrid ladies won this game with a comfortable margin.
  • Leitrim Juniors
After an hour and twenty minutes of very good football our Leitrim lads held a four point lead at the final whistle. Extra time was needed to separate the sides as visiting Sligo never let this game get out of their reach during normal time. It was in extra time that Leitrim’s Juniors took control when Karl Scollan broke loose from midfield to give a pin point pass for a Leitrim goal, their most important score of the evening. Kiltubrid were also represented by Aidan Bohan and Emmett Lee who both played during the course of the game. Leitrim now face neighbours Roscommon in the Connaught final.

28 April 2008

  • Division 5 Team
Played in Cloone our third team hadn’t any luck as the home side proved a difficult hurdle to cross. It would be a good idea if more players took this team a bit more serious as the club has invested in their participation at the start of the year to the tune of €1000 to affiliate a Division 5 team. Next Monday this team are playing Mohill in Kiltubrid at 2 pm.
  • Seniors Draw
Last Saturday evening our senior lads played Carrigallen in the League in Kiltubrid and shared in the spoils following a very good game of football. Our ladies Senior team played in Eslin and had a tough encounter against Mohill and lived to battle another day as Mohill equalised just as the final whistle was about to sound.

  • Leitrim Minors
Hard luck to Leitrim Minors who couldn’t break down the barrier of the visitors until very late in the game last Saturday evening in Pairc Sean. Kiltubrid’s Emmett Mahon and Kealan McKeon played a major part in Leitrim’s efforts on the day.
  • Division 4 Team
Played in Aughavas our Division 4 lads had a good day’s work nearly complete until Aughavas scored an injury-time point to level matters. Nevertheless a draw was a good result. Next game is against Cloone this Sunday at 2.30pm in Cloone.
  • Seniors
Our seniors had a good exercise both for our panel and the visitors Boyle in the senior football challenge played in Kiltubrid last Saturday evening. At this stage we wish Michael Scollan and Fergal Meehan a speedy recovery from their injuries picked up during the game. We play Carrigallen in the League in Kiltubrid at 6.30 pm. All players are reminded that training continues tonight Tuesday at 8 pm.
  • Shannonside Result
Leitrim travelled to Limerick last Sunday to save their status in Division 3 but had to settle for Division 4 status for 2009 as things didn’t go that well as they missed out by the narrowest of margins. This was a Shannonside victory for Limerick as some refereeing decisions left both players, management and Leitrim’s loyal band of supporters Clare’ly frustrated leaving Kilmallock.

10 March 2008

  • Division 5 League
Our third team were the first of our men’s teams in action for 2008. Visiting St Osnats were the more focused team on the day and despite some good individual performances by the Kiltubrid lads it wasn’t enough to stop the visitors from collecting their first brace of league points. The game was played in Kiltubrid and the pitch was in great shape considering the recent bad weather. The training field despite its heavy usage is proving to be a great facility especially when it comes to having the main field in the best possible condition for games.

With no points so far, Leitrim are still motoring towards their first points with Sligo the next stop in the league radar. Fermanagh’s incursion south was a lucky day for them as Leitrim failed to hold on to their merited lead, letting the visitors smuggle another brace of points northwards. Disappointment for players, management and supporters alike, but we still look forward to next Sunday for a better result against Sligo in Pairc Sean.
