  • Intermediate Championship
Our ladies contested the intermediate semi-final with Mohill in Fenagh on Saturday evening and it was to be a memorable encounter. To most people Kiltubrid would not have been favourites going into this game, due to our track record against Mohill this year, so our girls had a point to prove. It certainly was a game of two halves with Mohill first to shine, with the opening score coming after 7 minutes, but going on to score a total of 2-5 in first half against a poor 1-1 from Kiltubrid in the dying minutes of the half. It was 30-minutes the Kiltubrid girls would prefer to forget but a 7 point deficit is hard to get away from, a mammoth effort was needed for the second half. Kiltubrid Ladies came out in the second period with fierce determination and after 9 minutes the difference was reduced to just 3 points with the gap narrowing the girls upped the work rate and after 20 minutes the equaliser came with a fine goal from Siobhain Kelly. Kiltubrid now had belief, and powered on to score a further 1-4 from Aine Tighe, Miranda Burke, Emer Kelly and Sandra Early. Our girls played with a determination and spirit that elated their teammates and supporters. Mohill did score a point in the last few minutes but it was Kiltubrid’s half and Kiltubrid’s day with a final score of 4-6 to 2-6. Congrats and well done girls! We now face a strong and experienced Cloone side in the Final. The best place to prepare for this game is on the field, training continues at usual times.
  • Well Done

  • Death
We offer our deepest sympathy to the Guckian Family, Scardaun, Keshcarrigan on the death of Ann who passed away following a long illness. The club were saddened on Friday morning last when news of Ann’s death spread throughout the parish. Ann had a great interest in GAA and displayed the red and green not only for her club but also for her home county of Mayo. She is better known for her many years of hard work which she did with the Ladies club of the parish. Her daughter Sheila followed in her footsteps and is a member of the current Ladies panel. Last September, she was there to welcome back our Senior Team after winning the county title and was especially proud of her son Stephen being part of the squad. Ann is survived by her husband Sean, sons Francis and Stephen, and daughters Maura and Sheila. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.

Kiltubrid led at the interval by two points but a hungrier Mohill team on the day put on the pressure in the second half and came out winners on a scoreline of 1-08 to 0-06. • Ann Guckain (RIP)
Our community was saddened to hear of the death of Ann Guckain last Friday. Ann died at home with all her family around her, on Friday 21st July. For about five years Ann had fought her illness with a stoic dignity and Christian fortitude that was widely admired. Ann was a native of Mayo, but has lived here in Kiltubrid for 34 years, and since then she has endeared herself to everyone who knew her. There was a huge turn out at the removal and funeral, while many friends called to the house also to show their respect for a wonderful woman.
Ann was hugely active in our GAA community for many years. She was one of the founders of the ladies club in Kiltubrid and was our first Chairperson. Ann always promoted the ladies game and even during her brave battle took an interest.
When Ann was in her health she was to the fore in Kiltubrid Ladies Club. If we had to travel to any part of Leitrim you could be sure Ann would be there in her cream jetta with half of the team in the back. At football games, Ann always was a No.1 supporter, breaking many an umbrella banging them on sheds or walls anything to drum up support for her team. She always was willing to make sandwiches, wash jerseys, collect fees or fundraise. Ann was a sincere and kind person and her determination at developing our Club is providing many days of happiness for the younger footballers. Ann will always be in the fond memories of the Kiltubrid Ladies. She was a gracious, pleasant and courageous lady. To Sean, Shelia, Stephen, Maura, Frances, Patrick, Helen, close relatives and friend’s deepest sympathies are extended on behalf of Kiltubrid Ladies GAA. Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam.

  • Silver Anniversary Re-Union
The club enjoyed a very successful weekend in the parish celebrating the 25th anniversary of our 1981 championship winning team. Members of this winning team were reunited at various activities over the weekend. On Friday night a ‘Cead Mile Failte’ for all members of the winning team was held in McNamara’s Lounge Kilclare. The match video of the final was shown where many glorious memories were re-lived. The following day a large group attended the Golf outing at Carrick Golf Course with prizes given to all who attended. Thanks to Oliver Curran and Tommy Flynn who generously sponsored the prizes for the event. Later that afternoon, a Moon-River Cruise took place along the Shannon which was followed by social drinks in The Mountain Tavern, Liscarbin.

  • Many supporters travelled to Aughnasheelin to see the Ladies Senior Championship game where our ladies had an impressive win over St Joseph’s. That night, many people enjoyed the buffet which was followed by a presentation to the 1981 team in Cardiff’s Drumcong. Members of the 1981 team were as follows: Gus Guckian, Dermot Monaghan, Leo McCaffrey, Francie Kelly, Ciaran Lee, Pat McWeeney, Seamus McManus, Fr Liam Kelly, Michael James McKiernan, Michael Tighe, Sean Redican, Peter Farrell, Oliver Curran, Damien Murray, Gerry Lynch, Padraig Lynch, Seamus Tighe (capt), Hubert Murray, Declan Nealon, Cosmos Murray, Joe McGirl and Sean McGirl. A presentation was also made to the 1981 management team which included Edmond Doyle, who was also chairman of the club at the time, Padraig Griffin and Cathal Gilbride. Following the presentation, Brian and Des auctioned many items of memorabilia where much needed funds were raised for the club. Thanks to everyone who gave generously on the door and bought auction items on the night. A special word of thanks to Ciaran Lee who kindly sponsored the presentation crystal for the 1981 team as well as some of the auction items. Also thanks to James, Eilish and staff who provided a very enjoyable buffet. Club members travelled to the Sligo Races on Sunday followed by an evening Barbeque in Kesh at Gerties, Keshcarrigan. • Intermediate Championship
Kiltubrid Ladies took on St. Josephs in the first round of the Intermediate Championship on Saturday evening last in Aughnasheelan. Kiltubrid got off to a blistering start scoring two goals in the opening minutes. Kiltubrid Ladies dominated the game and ran out easy winners. The final score was 4-10 to 0-8. The score line did not reflect the intensity of the game with St Joseph’s never giving up. Captain Miranda Burke was inspirational on the day with her accurate passing, and score taking. The forwards all got on the score board with corner back Grainne Gill also scoring a fine goal. Our midfield pairing of Emer Kelly and Aoife Mc Weeney worked tirelessly, supplying the forwards with precise passes. As always the backs were excellent, never giving up, Emer Horan was also outstanding between the posts letting nothing by her. Our attention now turns to the second round, when we take on Mohill on August 5th. There is a lot of work to be done girls, so keep up the good work at training.

Kiltubrid Ladies team and Management would like to wish Siobhan Carroll a speedy recovery.
